I am sure a biker would appreciate the film even better.

While we can argue about Che's approach and whether his execution was justified or not, what he stood for remains admirable. There are very few who would be ready to part with their life fighting in a foreign country for its people.

And it seems the government of Bolivia is fianlly realising Che's relevance. BS posted an excellent blog entry in this connection. It's here:

http://bhupindersingh.blogspot.com/2006/06/che.htmlBhaswatihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15397144389576029618noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24574735.post-1150431655401779652006-06-15T21:20:00.000-07:002006-06-15T21:20:00.000-07:00Happy (belated) B'day!!I loved the movie. Unlike Che's the roads I took were more frequently traveled.

I wish Che had chosen a non-violent approach to the apathy towards poverty stricken Latin America. His violent uprising only justified the CIA sponsored hit which killed him.Yodahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09711652528962940049noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24574735.post-1150428328070092252006-06-15T20:25:00.000-07:002006-06-15T20:25:00.000-07:00Thank you, Esther :). Do see the film if you can; it's wonderful.

Like I mentioned earier, Guevara's method of armed resistance to bring about a just society remains arguable. While I, by no means, condone violence, sadly, sometimes that's the only option left for people who have been oppressed and denied a life of dignity to which every human being has a birth right, for ages. Since Che became a voice for such helpless poor people, he motivated them to take up arms to let their voices be heard. A revolution becomes imminent when voices are suppressed for centuries by those in power.Bhaswatihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15397144389576029618noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24574735.post-1150386322912304972006-06-15T08:45:00.000-07:002006-06-15T08:45:00.000-07:00A slightly belated Happy Birthday! I'll keep my eyes peeled for the video, too. Isn't it sad that someone who loved life and people ended up resorting to violence, which ends people's lives?Georganna Hancock M.S.https://www.blogger.com/profile/13989653997711727130noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24574735.post-1150343078763628352006-06-14T20:44:00.000-07:002006-06-14T20:44:00.000-07:00Lotus and Scott, I forgot to mention this. His methods at bringing about social change may be arguable for some, but his intent remains unquestionably pure.

I read your observations on The Motorcycle Diaries. Funny, how the human aspect of it made an impact on you, too. I think that just sets the book apart from many other travel memoirs.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, too :)

Scott, do see the film if you can. It's funny, poignant, and visually exciting. And since it is about a Che who was still studying medicine and wasn't this political figure, it provides a refreshing peek into his youth.

Lotus, do rent the movie! I can assure you, you will LOVE it. You can always read the book later. The film has been enriched by the fact that the director also drew from the memoirs of Alberto Granado (who is still alive and lives in Cuba), Che's travelling friend on this particular trip.

Do let mew know how you like it :)Bhaswatihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15397144389576029618noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24574735.post-1150305985398894982006-06-14T10:26:00.000-07:002006-06-14T10:26:00.000-07:00Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, dear Bhaswati! :)T...Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, dear Bhaswati! :)

Thank you so much for the wonderfully written reviews. Recent developments in Latin America only reinforce the relevance and the need for Che- in his empathy for the poor, the 'insulted and the humiliated', as Dostoevesky termed them.

Brought back memories.

Wish you a Very Happy Birthday !
You are lucky to share it with Che.readerswordshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05536082441634566406noreply@blogger.com
